Patient robot for training

A group of scientists from Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU), together with colleagues from Perm State Medical University named after Academician E. A. Wagner and Moscow State Medical University named after A. I. Evdokimov, has created an anthropomorphic simulator for training dental students.

According to the researchers, creating a simulator based on an anthropomorphic robot, that is human-like, to conduct practical classes for dental students will make it possible to automatically assess the skills of trainees without the participation of a teacher. In addition, the use of such an android will provide feedback from the "patient" in the form of movements and speech.
- We have developed a dental anthropomorphic robotic simulator that will allow an objective assessment of the student's skills using several models of teeth, including "smart teeth" with a set of sensors. The basis of the device is an optical recognition system that checks the correctness of students' work," explained Associate Professor of the Automatics and Telemechanics Department at PNRPU, PhD Andrei Kokoulin.

Also, according to the scientists, the simulator is capable of conducting quizzes on the topics of practical classes and lectures and evaluating test assignments.
