Mass production of ultra-precise coronavirus test launched in Russia

Russia has created ultra-precise tests for coronavirus, which show results within two hours with an accuracy of 96%. The Ulyanovsk company "TestGen", the winner of the "Start" program and the "Development-NTI" competition of the Innovation Promotion Foundation, is engaged in the production of tests. The company is a resident Ulyanovsk Nanocenter ULNANOTECH (part of the FIOP investment network RUSNANO Group).
The development is characterized by high accuracy. According to the study, the test system will show the presence or absence of infection with a probability of up to 96%, and at the earliest stages of the disease. The results will be available two hours later.
The test system was developed in a month. The company has successfully passed all clinical trials and launched mass production – up to 50 thousand tests per day. It is expected that up to two million tests for Russians will be produced per month. The TestGen company considers one of the bottlenecks in mass diagnostics to be the low throughput of laboratories, the so-called "human factor": during a shift, one laboratory assistant can qualitatively isolate the RNA of the virus from about 100 samples.
"When developing the test system, we initially laid down the possibility of automating the process using robotic stations, the use of which will increase the productivity of laboratories by eight times, which means that diagnostics will become more accessible and faster," said the candidate of Medical Sciences and CEO of the company Andrey Toropovsky.
"The cost of the test system in the structure of the price of the test in laboratories is on average no more than 30%," said Dmitry Pak, Director of TestGen Development.
"The TestGen company will provide any assistance in the supply of test systems to the regions of Russia. To enter the foreign market, we are preparing to receive a European CE certificate for the test system," said Andrey Toropovsky.
