The search for aging factors

Scientists from Dalgoosie, McMaster and McGill Universities are embarking on one of the most comprehensive programs (Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging, CLSA) dedicated to a comprehensive study of the impact of various factors on health and life expectancy. 50,000 Canadians aged 45-85 will take part in the program, which will be observed over the next 20 years by about 160 doctors and scientists from 10 research and medical organizations.

The task of the researchers was to assess the factors that make it possible to maintain health in adulthood and old age, as well as harmful factors, in order to make recommendations not only on how to live for a long time in the modern world, but also how to improve the quality of life.

Information will be collected regarding changes in the biological, medical, psychological and socio-economic aspects of the participants' lives. The project differs from the previously conducted research in that it will make it possible to take not an "instant photograph" of the health status of adults, but a kind of "newsreel" with a more detailed and thoughtful assessment.
