In the Indian city of Mumbai, a Malaysian citizen was detained who tried to smuggle a frozen human embryo in a suitcase. This is reported by The Independent.

Law enforcement officers found the embryo in a special container for transportation, hidden in a man's suitcase. The smuggler admitted that this is not the first time he carries out such transportation.

The man pointed the police to a clinic in Mumbai that specializes in in vitro fertilization. Currently, the medical institution is under investigation as part of criminal proceedings on a smuggling scheme.

The clinic denies all charges, but a representative of the Indian Intelligence Agency presented evidence to the court that the clinic could have been the place of delivery of the embryo. This follows from the correspondence on the detainee's phone.

The clinic's lawyers claim that they have never purchased human embryos or organs, and this whole story is probably a collusion of competitors.

Note that in vitro fertilization is prohibited in India. This is due to religious aspects. In this regard, some are trying to carry out procedures with the help of embryos brought by smuggling.
