Russia is on the verge of biorevolution

On March 17-20, 2015, the VIII Moscow International Congress "Biotechnology: State and Prospects of Development" was held in Moscow with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
The organizers of the Congress "Biotechnology: State and Prospects of Development" were the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Federal Agency of Scientific Organizations, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the Russian Union of Chemists and Expo-Biochim Technologies CJSC.
Opening the congress, representatives of the scientific community noted that the world is on the threshold of biorevolution, which consists in the creation of synthetic cells, virtual and digital cells, electrobiosynthesis, nanomolecular energy converters and other new technologies.
The topic of innovation has become one of the key topics at the congress. The participants were particularly interested in the work of the section "Innovations, finance and business in the formation of the biotechnology industry", which raised the issue of the prospects of Russian companies in the conditions of crisis and foreign economic sanctions. Representatives of domestic research and production enterprises noted the traditionally high level of quality of Russian biotechnological products. They also expressed hope for the continuation of the state policy aimed at import substitution and promotion of domestic products to foreign markets.
In Russia, a great contribution to the development of biotechnologies and developments is made by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, which implements the Federal Target Program "Development of the pharmaceutical and medical Industry of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2020 and beyond" and participates in the creation of a number of engineering centers for the development of biotechnologies. They will become the basis of the future Russian pharmaceuticals and certain areas of the Russian medical devices industry. However, to date, the volume of production of domestic medicines has increased by 2 times compared to the situation in 2009-2010. At the same time, there is a tendency to increase the production of complex medicines and expensive drugs, where the main added value is made up of innovative developments.
Within the framework of the congress, the exhibition "World of Biotechnology – 2015" was held, where, in particular, companies participating in the Federal Target Program "Development of the pharmaceutical and medical industry of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2020 and beyond" were presented.
