Four people play polo for each team, but there may be more horses, since players often change them. Unlike equestrian sports, cloned animals are not prohibited in polo, so their use began to gain popularity in 2013, when the Cambiaso team won a match for the first time using cloned horses. The cloning was led by Katrin Hinrichs, a veterinarian from Texas A&M University. She noted that when managing a cloned animal, it is very important how professional the rider is. "This is Adolfo Cambiaso, he can even ride a plough horse," Hinrichs jokes.

The cloning of polo horses is now actively engaged in the company Crestview Genetics. Since 2009, the company has cloned more than 200 horses. At the very beginning, critics believed that the undertaking would fail, and if not, then the clones would not be able to do as well as their natural counterparts. However, after several successful Cambiazo performances, most of the protesters fell silent.

Hinrichs notes that the best way to get a good horse is still breeding. "Cloning is a roundabout way," says the veterinarian. "It doesn't improve the breed." But polo players are not interested in the breed, they are interested in winning, so the company continues to clone, Hinrichs notes.
