EurasiaBio-2008
On April 24-25, 2008, the First International Congress "EurasiaBio-2008" will be held in Moscow, which is held by the Ovchinnikov Society of Biotechnologists of Russia and the National Biofuel Association with the support of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Industry and Energy of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, RAS, RAS, RSPP, Business Russia, CCI of the Russian Federation, the European Biotechnology Federations and Bioindustry Organizations.
The relevance of the forum is explained by the increasing influence of biotechnology on world economies. We can already safely talk about the formation of a new type of economy, the so-called "bioeconomy based on knowledge", which is based on the latest biotechnologies that penetrate into all its spheres.
The transition to bioeconomics is predetermined by humanity's awareness of the depletion of world oil and gas reserves, the need to preserve the natural environment. It is bioeconomics based on the use of renewable energy sources and modern biotechnologies that can solve a wide range of economic, social and environmental problems, such as providing the population with high-quality food and modern diagnostic and treatment tools, the emergence of new fuels, the reorientation of entire industries to the use of inexpensive organic raw materials and secondary resources, the development of knowledge-intensive industries, the improvement of environmental conditions, minimizing the effects of global warming, etc.
The wide range of possibilities of bioeconomics is explained by its structural diversity: it includes such areas as forestry, pulp and paper, food industry, agriculture and fish farming (the so-called "green sector" of bioeconomics), biopharmaceuticals ("red sector"), as well as industrial biotechnology (production of biomaterials and biofuels) ("white sector").
The key role in accelerating and optimizing the processes of introducing biotechnology into the economy is played by the largest international forums and exhibitions on biotechnology, allowing to present the latest trends and achievements in science, technology, production, business, such as "BIO" (USA), "BIO-Europe", "BIO-Asia".
Against the background of other countries, Russia's successes in the field of biotechnology so far look modest. The volume of sales in the biotechnology market in Russia does not exceed $ 1 billion per year, while in the global market it exceeded $ 95 billion. For comparison, the rapidly developing market of China and India in recent years amounts to 3.8 billion dollars.
At the political level, Russia has already set a course for active support and development of knowledge-intensive sectors of the economy, and, first of all, biotechnology and nanotechnology. The annual EurasiaBio Congress, which is being held for the first time in Moscow on April 24-25, 2008, is designed to solve the same task.
The EurasiaBio Congress will become an integrated platform for cooperation in the field of fundamental and applied biotechnology, exchange of ideas, achievements, demonstration of all that has been accumulated in this scientific and production segment in Russia, neighboring countries, as well as in neighboring Europe and Asia.
Within the framework of the congress, it is planned to hold sessions "Global Bioeconomics: driving forces", "Bioeconomics: industry and materials", "Bioeconomics: fuel and energy", "Bioeconomics: production and processing of consumer products", Bioeconomics: Investments in development", as well as a round table on the interaction of the state, business, society. Representatives of government, business, and the scientific community are expected to participate widely in the forum.
According to the President of the Russian Society of Biotechnology, Raif Vasilov, the Congress will bring together government representatives, entrepreneurs and industry experts to exchange ideas and discuss how Russia and other CIS countries can benefit significantly from the growing global interest in bioeconomics."
The EurasiaBio International Congress is an annual global event in biotechnology and renewable energy in Russia and the CIS countries. The Congress offers unique opportunities for biotechnological, pharmaceutical and energy companies, research institutes and investors from all over the world to gather in one place at one time, get to know each other, exchange ideas and discuss future prospects for the development of the industry, possible joint business projects.
