Nanoforum-2009: results

The Second International Forum on Nanotechnology has completed its work, the press service of RUSNANO reports. The plenary session of the Forum was opened by the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, who stressed the special importance of the development of nanotechnology for the country's economy. The Head of State noted that today Russia is implementing the world's largest state investment program in the field of nanotechnology – 318 billion rubles will be allocated for these purposes by 2015.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Ivanov, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Boris Gryzlov, and other officials also took part in the events of the forum. Top officials of the state visited the exhibition of the latest nanotechnology developments, paying special attention to the expositions of Russian participants.

The key topics of the Forum's business program were the use of nanotechnology in traditional and high-tech sectors of the economy, forecasting promising directions for the development of nanotechnology and the development of strategies for the implementation of nanotechnology projects, the formation of a full-fledged financial and technological infrastructure of the innovative economy, training of scientific managers. Representatives of foreign companies and universities spoke about the practice of startups and tools for financing nanotechnology developments, the peculiarities of national innovation systems in Israel, Finland, the USA, France, Germany, Great Britain, South Korea and a number of other countries.

In total, more than 11,000 politicians, businessmen and scientists from Russia and other countries took part in the Forum. The exhibition of nanotechnology projects was visited by more than 10,000 people.

Within the framework of the "scientific block" of the Forum, 17 scientific and technical sections worked, at which 221 sectional and 197 poster reports were presented, as well as 508 poster reports of participants of the Second International Competition of Scientific Works of Young Scientists in the field of nanotechnology.

During the three days of the event, RUSNANO signed cooperation agreements with the Perm Krai Administration, Sberbank of Russia, URALSIB BANK, OAO LUKOIL, and the State Polytechnic Museum.

During the Forum, RUSNANO held a presentation of a number of investment projects. Including the expansion and modernization of the production of germanium and products of high degrees of its processing, as well as the production of innovative thermal insulation materials based on nanotechnological principles of processing broken non-grade glass. Investment projects for the creation of industrial production of optical fiber using nanotechnology, unique devices for the diagnosis of blood clotting, mass production of ultra-high-strength springs using nanotechnology were presented for the first time. In addition, RUSNANO's participation in the VTB Capital and DFJ project on the formation of a venture fund in the field of nanotechnology was announced.

Within the framework of the Forum, the ceremony of awarding the winners of the First International Award in the field of nanotechnology RUSNANOPRIZE-2009, the presentation of the First Russian Youth Award in the field of nanoindustry, as well as the awarding of the winners of the International Competition of Young Scientists took place. The Forum also summed up the results of the competition of scientific developments in the field of high-performance computing, which is held by RUSNANO together with Intel.
