The police are armed with DNA pistols

They will send a "black mark"

Vladimir Bogdanov, Rossiyskaya GazetaSoon, criminals will have to go to work wearing an army suit of chemical or bacterial protection.

Or something like that. And it is better to abandon the planned crime altogether.

Everyone knows that criminals are already being caught by DNA tests. And soon they will all have genetic passports. But while such technologies are used with caution. Now the criminal can be caught by marking him with artificial DNA.

A British company has developed and launched a new type of non-lethal weapon capable of nullifying all the efforts of an attacker to destroy evidence and leave no trace. We are talking about the so-called DNA guns and SelectaDNA pistols.

Many experts believe that the new products will be an excellent tool for police and special services of many countries. Especially for those employees who are directly involved in the detention and prosecution of criminals. After all, unusual trunks in the case when the forces are unequal and the criminal turns out to be more fleet-footed than the pursuer, will greatly help the policeman, greatly increasing the chances of catching up with the fleeing. Or 100 percent find him in hot pursuit.

The principle of operation of the SelectaDNA rifle and pistol is somewhat similar to paintball markers. Both the gun and the pistol fire with ordinary paintball balls. In both cases, cartridges loaded with compressed carbon dioxide are used to shoot balls.

From a pistol with a 12-gram carbon dioxide cylinder, you can make a couple dozen shots. The only difference is that instead of the usual paint, a non-toxic substance is used in the novelty, which includes a synthetic DNA code.

DNA fluoresces in ultraviolet light, showing that a ball has hit a person. Upon contact with the body, the substance penetrates so deeply into the skin that even after two weeks it can be identified. It is impossible to wash it off, so the criminal will not be able to get rid of the police tag.

However, it is still possible to get rid of such a marker. But to do this, you need to wash yourself with a special shampoo containing millions of false DNA fragments. But where to get it?

If it gets on clothes, the marker also eats deeply into the fabric. So even after three weeks, a special scanner will easily detect a DNA tag.

Western media reported that scientists are developing DNA tags that will be "vital" for a year or even more. These markers are completely harmless to the body, since this type of DNA is not alive and is not able to mutate.

The peculiarity of ammunition is also that when making charges of one clip for a pistol, the same code is applied to each "cartridge". This is done so that the participants of a certain incident, if they are hit by DNA-marked bullets, can be accurately calculated. And in the future to find out what crime they were involved in.

DNA labeling has already found application in other areas. For example, the military uses it to track counterfeit equipment. For example, in aviation. Due to such details, cases of severe flight accidents in the Air Forces of many countries have become more frequent. Including in Russia.

By the way, a similar marking method has long been used on tankers. There, loaded petroleum products are marked with certain weak radioactive isotopes, so that later it would be possible to install the board from which the unscrupulous captain poured fuel waste into the ocean. And thereby significantly spoiled the ecology. For such offenses, captains and owners of ships are punished with huge fines.

The pistol is equipped with a clip for 20 marking charges. The capacity of the rifle has not yet been reported. But for sure it will be much higher. During the tests, both types of weapons sent genetic bullets fairly accurately at the target from a distance of 30-40 meters.

In addition to these devices, another variant of the marker with synthetic DNA appeared – in the form of an aerosol. It can be used for application to various material objects. For example, for money for their subsequent identification. Or expensive jewelry.

An American company has created a security system based on a new technology for spraying molecules with a certain content of artificial DNA. Such a DNA mist will be sprayed in a separate room of a bank, museum or jewelry store for a certain time. Some firms are already installing sprinklers that will mark thieves during the commission of a crime.

Many experts have already stated that such a method is much more effective than the analysis of DNA traces at the crime scene accepted in criminology. And in this case, the artificial DNA molecules will penetrate deeply into the robber's clothes and body. And then, as they say, it's a matter of technique.
