Bioinformatics Summer School

The first Bioinformatics Summer School organized by the Bioinformatics Institute will be held in Moscow from July 29 to August 5, 2013

The school is held for students, postgraduates and young scientists studying bioinformatics, as well as undergraduates and postgraduates of mathematical, technical and biological specialties interested in bioinformatics and wishing to develop in this field.

Participation in the Summer School is free. Payment of accommodation and transportation costs (in whole or in part) will be made on a competitive basis.

Venue: Moscow region or Faculty of Bioengineering and Bioinformatics of Moscow State University, Moscow. The exact location will be confirmed at the end of May.

The scientific program of the summer school includes topics such as the assembly and analysis of genomes and transcriptomes, NGS data analysis, epigenetics, comparative genomics, computational mass spectrometry, molecular evolution and others. The program is designed for different levels of knowledge of participants who will be able to choose the most suitable sections for themselves.

Main sections:Bioinformatics for computer scientists and mathematicians (intensive courses in molecular biology, machine learning, biotechnology, NGS data analysis, etc.).

  • Bioinformatics for biologists (intensive courses in programming, NGS for biologists, statistics, etc.).
  • Bioinformatics for advanced level (a series of lectures and seminars on a variety of topics).

Classes will be held in the format of intensive courses and master classes. In addition to the main program, the school will host a round table on open problems of bioinformatics, a poster session and classes on the development of professional competencies (writing scientific articles, grant applications, poster presentation).

In addition, there will be several keynote speeches by leading bioinformatics scientists. The detailed program of the summer school will be published in May.

Confirmed Lecturers:

  • Pavel Pevsner (University of California, San Diego)
  • Alla Lapidus (Center for Genomic Bioinformatics of St. Petersburg State University, SPbAU RAS)
  • Alexey Zaikin (University College London)
  • Mikhail Ivanchenko (Department of Bioinformatics of UNN)
  • Marina Granovskaya (Roche)
  • Employees of the Laboratory of Algorithmic Biology of the SPbAU RAS
  • Employees of the Faculty of Bioengineering and Bioinformatics of Moscow State University and IPPI RAS

The full list of lecturers, as well as the school schedule, will be published in June.

To participate in the competitive selection, it is necessary to fill out a questionnaire on the website of the Institute of Bioinformatics by June 15, 2013.
