Competition of scientific works of young scientists of Russia in 2014

The Federal State Budgetary Institution "N.N. Petrov Research Institute of Oncology" of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation announces a competition of scientific papers of young scientists of Russia in 2014.

The organizer of the competition is the Scientific Council of the FSBI "N.N.Petrov Research Institute of Oncology" of the Ministry of Health of Russia.

The purpose of the competition is to support young scientists, stimulate their scientific activities, and reward them for scientific achievements that make a significant contribution to the development of oncology.

The competition accepts works that are important for science and practical healthcare, characterized by novelty, relevance, originality in the formulation and solution of scientific and applied scientific problems.

Previously published works, as well as those sent to other contests, are not accepted.

The subject of competitive developments should relate to the field of fundamental and clinical oncology.

Young scientists under the age of 35, inclusive, who do not have a doctorate at the time of submitting their work to the competition are invited to participate in the competition. Residents, postgraduates, doctoral students, teachers of departments and researchers of medical universities and research institutes, medical and biological-soil faculties of St. Petersburg State University, specialists of medical and preventive institutions of St. Petersburg and other cities of Russia can take part in the competition.

Authors of completed research projects (including dissertations), as well as fragments of complex research and development are allowed to participate in the competition with the consent of the creative team. One participant can submit only one work to the competition.

The competition is held in two rounds in the period from January to April 2014.

Applications are accepted from January 13 to February 10, 2014.

First (correspondence) the round of the competition is from February 11 to March 03, 2014.

Second (full-time) the round of the competition is from March 04 to April 15, 2014.

Announcement of the results of the competition – April-May 2014.

Those wishing to participate in the competition must provide the necessary documentation in accordance with the requirements at:

Works are not accepted by e-mail.

Applications for participation in the competition are accepted from the date of the official announcement of the competition on the website of the Research Institute of Oncology.

Only those competitive applications that meet all the necessary requirements are accepted for consideration.

The applicant may be refused to accept the tender application and participation in the competition in the following cases::

  • late submission of the tender application;
  • non-compliance of the application with the requirements;
  • incomplete or unreliable submission of necessary documents.

After checking the applications for their compliance with the requirements, the submitted works are sent to the competition commission, which is formed by the Scientific Council of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "N.N. Petrov Research Institute of Oncology" of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation from among the leading specialists in the field of experimental and clinical oncology.

Scientific supervisors of the award applicants may not be elected to the composition of the competition commission.

The Commission, based on the submitted documentation, conducts a comprehensive assessment of the works within the framework of the first round of the competition.

Grades are given on a five-point scale for each of the criteria listed below:

  • The relevance of scientific work.
  • The novelty of scientific work, the originality of the hypothesis, solution or methodology of research.
  • Scientific and practical significance of the work.
  • The reliability of the data obtained.
  • Prospects for further scientific work and implementation.
  • Availability of testing and implementation (if available).

Based on the analysis of the ratings for the first round of the competition, an overall rating of the submitted developments and projects is compiled. 15 developments and projects that have received the highest rating are selected for the second round of the competition.

The second round of the competition is held within the framework of a one-day Conference of young scientists held at the FSBI "N.N. Petrov Research Institute of Oncology" of the Ministry of Health of Russia. At the conference, the contestant must present the main provisions of his work within 10 minutes with a demonstration of illustrative material, be ready to answer questions from members of the commission and the audience. The presentation is evaluated on a ten-point scale.

After the performance of all the contestants, the competition commission determines the winners by discussing the works and open voting. When making a final decision, the commission takes into account the number of points scored in the first and second rounds of the competition.

On the results of the competition, the competition commission draws up a protocol indicating the results of the meeting, which is signed by the members of the competition commission present at the meeting.

The contestants who won prizes are awarded prizes in the following sizes:

1st place – 30,000 (thirty thousand rubles);
2nd place – 20,000 (twenty thousand rubles);
3rd place – 15,000 (fifteen thousand rubles).

Taking into account the financial capabilities of the FSBI "N.N. Petrov Research Institute of Oncology" of the Ministry of Health of Russia publishes a collection of scientific papers of young scientists.

Awarding of the winners of the competition will take place at the Assembly Day of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "N.N. Petrov Research Institute of Oncology" of the Ministry of Health of Russia in the period April-May 2014.
