Competition of innovative projects in the field of biomedical technologies InBioMed 2014

The Skolkovo Foundation announces the launch of a new innovative competition of biomedical projects – InBioMed 2014. The competition will be held with the support of the Fund for Assistance to the Development of Small Forms of Enterprises in the Scientific and Technical Sphere, the Polar Star Ventures Fund, the VEB-Innovations Fund (Vnesheconombank Group), the AstraZeneca company.

The InBioMed 2014 competition is an initiative of Russian development institutes, venture capital and industrial companies for financial and mentoring support for the development of projects in the field of biomedical technologies. The target audience of the competition are scientific communities (research institutes, institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, universities), researchers, engineers, startups (business incubators, regional technoparks), technology entrepreneurs. The winning projects will have the opportunity to attract financial support, as well as a responsible mentor to the governing bodies from the Venture Fund (smart money), whose task will be to assist in ensuring and monitoring the success of the startup's development.

Applications for participation in the competitive selection are accepted until April 15, 2014. The competition will be held in three stages. The first stage, at which special attention will be paid to the scientific and technical level of development and the prospects for its implementation, includes a preliminary examination of the project. Then the selected projects will have to prove their investment attractiveness. At the final stage, project creators will be invited to participate in a pitch session, which includes five-minute presentations of projects in free form.

The priority areas of the competition are:

  • DNA and protein sequencing tools, data analysis
  • Computer systems and computer modeling tools in biology
  • Identification and validation of new drug targets and potential molecules for the treatment of cardiovascular and endocrinological diseases
  • Personalized and translational medicine
  • Identification and development of biomarkers for the prognosis of the course of the disease and response to therapy
  • Development of non-invasive or minimally invasive technologies for the determination and quantification of cancer biomarkers with diagnostic, prognostic purposes, as well as for monitoring therapy
  • Laser and terahertz technologies for diagnostics and therapy, cosmetology and biotechnology;
  • New materials for medicine;
  • Sensors in medicine
