Recently, for biological Sciences and biotechnology has been called a "living system". They occupy a significant amount of modern scientific knowledge, and the results have a direct impact on our lives. It is not surprising that people are more interested in news from the world of life Sciences. The contest aims to identify the best publication in the field.

Participation is open to scholars who wish to try his hand at journalism; experienced promoters; professional journalists and all those interested in living systems. Entries will be evaluated well-known biologists and scientific journalists, and winners will receive cash prizes.

Works are accepted until September 15, 2009, the winners will be announced in October 2009.

"Golden pen of fundamental science" (in the field of living systems)

"National recognition"
The winner in each category is determined by a free vote for the work on the website www.strf.ru.

The SELECTION criteria FOR the COMPETITION

1. To participate in the contest is open to all comers, regardless of their country of residence.
2. Articles should be submitted in Russian.
3. For the contest are accepted as previously published articles, and original articles written specifically for the contest, or other purposes.
4. The article can be published in printed or electronic publication in the period from 01 January 2008 to 15 September 2009 inclusive.
5. The contest accepts the following article types: popular science articles, interviews, reports, essays.
6. Will not be accepted, books, book chapters, news, short notes, reviews, feuilletons investigation.
7. Articles can be written by the authors.
8. The author may speak under a pseudonym.
9. The jury members are not allowed to participate in the contest.
10. Work is not accepted for the competition, if one of her co – member of the jury.

RULES OF PARTICIPATION

To nominate an article for the contest can: the authors; the editors of the journals where was the publication; head of the scientific organization where the author; the members of the jury.

If You have a series of articles on the contest should provide one publication series, held in the period from 01.01.2008 to 15.09.2009 inclusive.

The author has the right to present several works in various categories.

You cannot submit the same work in several nominations.

Requirements for the CONTEST articles

1. Plagiarism in competitive articles do not allow it. If the facts of plagiarism will be known to the jury, the job will be removed from the competition at any stage.
2. The article should be presented with the known facts, only truthful the research results of past trials.
3. The article should have references to the sources on which it is possible to determine the accuracy of the presented material. Sources can be: periodicals (magazines, Newspapers, collections of articles, abstracts), literature, education, biographies, essays, etc.
4. Availability of illustrations (photographs, drawings, charts, tables), understanding the material by non-specialists.

KEY DATES

  1. Acceptance of works for the contest ends September 15, 2009

Manuscripts submitted after the deadline will not be considered and to participate in the competition are not permitted.

Work will be posted on the website www.strf.ru and you will be able to claim victory in the nomination "people's recognition".

  1. Qualifying round: 6 April to 15 September 2009

During the tour, the members of the jury form a list of works that are eligible to fight for the podium. The list will be published on the website www.strf.ru.

  1. Final round: Oct 2009

In this tour the jury conduct the selection of winners and distribute prizes.

Submission guidelines

1. Cover letter

The cover letter should indicate the name of the work, if the article was previously published edition, date of publication. In the nominative case needs to be specified about the author (s) in the following sequence: name (in full) or alias, job, position, primary research interests, contact information (address, phone, e-mail).

2. Article

Amount of text: up to 30,000 characters.
Text format: the paper must be submitted in the Russian language in the editor Microsoft word format (*.doc or *.rtf without archiving and encodings). Font – times new Roman, 1.5 spacing.
The title of the article in capital letters without the quotation marks, 14 PT, bold, centered; transfers are not allowed, the period at the end of the string is not set, the underscore is not used.
Author: 12 PT.
Abstract: 12 PT, no more than 600 characters.
Article text:font 12, and indentation 1 cm., alignment format.
Subheadings:font italic, 14 PT, left aligned.
Illustration:
1) Can be placed inside the text. Illustrations should be numbered consecutively according to the article (not the partitions) and signature. Alphanumeric numbering (1A, 2B) are undesirable.
2) Artworks are sent separately from the text in jpg, tif, pdf (no larger than 200 KB each);

If the article was published, then it can be represented in the form of an electronic copy of a publication in jpg, tif, pdf or html (the file size no more than 1 megabyte). The copy should be visible attributes of publication: publishing, author, title of article, date of publication.

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATING WORKS

1. Compliance of the content of the article with the declared nomination.
2. The topicality of the topic.
3. The depth of the study of the material.
4. Focus on reaching a wide audience.
5. Originality of the theme and presentation of the material.
6. Literary skill.
7. Absence of factual and terminological errors.

Submitted works are not reviewed. The jury reserves the right to reject the article or send it for revision if it does not correspond to the subject of the competition, contains unrepresentative scientific material or a large number of spelling and stylistic errors. In case of doubts about the authorship of the submitted works, they are withdrawn from the competition at any stage.

Summing up and awarding prizes

The results of the competition will be announced by the jury in October 2009 at the award ceremony of the contest participants in Moscow. Detailed information will be posted on the website of the publication "Science and Technology of Russia – STRF.ru ".

All competitive works will be published in the publication "Science and Technology of Russia – STRF.ru ". The articles of the winners with the consent of the authors can be published in the printed editions of the company "Park-media".

What are living systems?Living systems is a generalizing name for biological sciences and biotechnologies – what is called life sciences abroad.


I am a pensioner (student, electrician, unemployed, etc.). Can I participate in the competition?Any author can participate in the competition "Living Words", regardless of professional affiliation, age, country of residence and other parameters that do not contradict the selection criteria for the competition.

My article is published in Ukrainian, can I participate?To participate in the contest, you must back up the original article with a neat translation into Russian.
