Dietary supplements do not cure!

A resident of Australia received six months in prison for grievous bodily harm to his daughter and child abuse. The girl became severely disabled due to the fact that her father treated her with dietary supplements for several weeks, instead of taking her to the hospital.

According to the materials of the criminal case, the defendant's 11-year-old daughter felt unwell in August 2006. The man, who did not trust doctors and did not believe in the effectiveness of modern medicines, preferred to treat the child with dietary supplements manufactured by Mannatech.

The condition of the Australian's daughter has been continuously deteriorating for several weeks. In the end, when the girl's body temperature rose to 42 degrees and she started hallucinating, the man still agreed to seek medical help.

During the examination, the patient was found to have an infectious heart lesion. Doctors performed an emergency operation to replace the heart valve, but then, as a result of a new complication, the child's brain received irreversible damage. The girl spent about a year in the hospital, and is currently severely disabled: she is confined to a wheelchair and needs constant care.

The Australian's lawyers tried to convince the judges that his passion for alternative medicine was due to the consequences of a traumatic brain injury suffered several years ago. However, the Brisbane court sentenced the man to three years in prison with the right to early release in 6 months. The cohabitant of the Australian, who also took part in the "treatment" of the girl, was sentenced to a year of probation.
