Foreign bodies in..

Found and surprisedRecently it became known about an unusual find of surgeons from Izhevsk:

during the operation, a 29-year-old man with suspected cancer was surprised to find a five-centimeter spruce branch instead of a tumor. Commenting on this case to RIA Novosti, the chief phthisiologist of Russia Mikhail Perelman shared memories of similar cases from his own practice, when sewing needles, dentures, an inhaler cap and even a metal star from a cap had to be removed from the respiratory tract of patients. World medicine knows a lot of similar stories – residents of different countries periodically surprise surgeons with various findings. Here are some illustrative examples.

These items were at different times extracted by American surgeons from the nasopharynx of children:

A screw was found in the nose of a two-year-old American:

A pencil is visible on this MR tomogram,
which a 25-year-old resident of the UK suffering from depression inserted into his nose:

And this nail, an elderly American, fluttered away during an MRI,
when a metal object that has been in his nose for about 30 years,
shifted under the influence of a strong magnetic field:

This plastic pen cap
found in the bronchus of a 7-year-old resident of the Indian city of Lucknow:

Brush for cleaning the tracheotomy tube,
collapsed in the bronchus of a 70-year-old Brazilian:

This ring was found in the throat of a 7-year-old Indian,
suffering from deafness and mental retardation:

And these scissors, with which a 27-year-old resident of China brushed his teeth,
accidentally got into his esophagus when he laughed in response to a friend's joke:

A 30-centimeter tangle of hair accumulated in the stomach of an 11-year-old Indian woman,
suffering from a rather rare mental disorder – trichophagia (eating hair):

48-year-old Iraqi Gulf War veteran suffering from schizophrenia,
filled my stomach with 52 lighters:

However, foreign bodies fall far not only into the respiratory tract. In fact, they can get into any organ and any tissue of the body, even if they are not connected to the outside world (in case of injury).

The 29-year-old Chinese woman carried these sewing needles almost from birth –
in this way, her grandmother tried to get rid of unwanted additions to the family:

It happens that no special equipment is required to detect a foreign object – it is clearly visible to the naked eye. The case of an 18-year-old Indian, whose head was hit by a bus handrail with a length of more than a meter, is very indicative.:

And, in conclusion, let us recall the story of the 44-year-old Frenchman,
who practically lost his brain without any foreign bodies –
fluid gradually accumulating in the ventricles of the brain,
filled almost the entire volume of the cranium:
