Korchevatel-2: jokes aside!

Korchevatel-2 is an April Fool's joke, but the article "Darwinism" is unfortunately notPublications "Polit.

<url>", "Trinity variant" and some other publications on April 1, materials about "Korchevatel-2" as another experiment to place in a scientific journal the results of automatic text generation (with certain differences from the original, quite real experiment) is a joke, said the scientific editor of " <url>" Boris Dolgin: "The program RHODES was not developed at all by a group of graduate students and students of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the Institute of Information Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences on behalf of the director of the Institute G.L.Skuratov-Belsky. And not being developed, it did not generate the text of the article "Darwinism" mentioned in the materials about the "Grubber-2". The authors of the joke are scientific journalists of various publications and current scientists. The meaningful goal is to pay attention to the quality of products of quite natural intelligence published by scientific journals. A quality against which the appearance of some illiterate apology of Lysenkoism in the once venerable Litgazeta should not surprise either."

"There was, however, a single unconscious inaccuracy in the comic materials – the authors of the joke did not figure out which magazines from the bunch published by Tomsk State University under the general brand "Bulletin of Tomsk State University" are included in the list of the Higher Attestation Commission, and which ones are not. For this inaccuracy, we apologize to the Higher Attestation Commission, Tomsk State University, its publications, and in particular to the inadvertently elevated status of the "Bulletin of Tomsk State University. Philosophy. Sociology. Political science", - Boris Dolgin notes.

In the lively discussion that unfolded around the April Fool's publication, fears were voiced that with such a joke we could discredit the publication, which could hardly publish such an exotic article, and the person whose name was designated as the name of the program and/or the author of the article. These concerns cannot be considered justified, since the article "Darwinism" containing the above fragments (until recently located on the journal's website at: http://sun.tsu.ru/mminfo/000063105/phil/02/image/02-089.pdf , and now at: http://sun.tsu.ru/mminfo/000063105/phil/02/image/02-089_1.pdf ), was indeed published in the specified edition by the authorship of V.B. Rhodes – moreover, not at all on April 1 and, it seems, absolutely serious.

As an additional confirmation of this fact, we reproduce verbatim below the statement published on the Vestnik website.

We (editorial Polit.ru – VM) we will get to know ourselves with interest and introduce readers to additional documents that, according to their statements, are being prepared in response to the April Fools' publication by the editorial board of the Bulletin of Tomsk University. Philosophy. Sociology. Political Science".About the publication

"Another magazine from the "WAC list" published a computer-generated article"
<url> online publicationIn early April 2009, on the pages of the Internet news portal Polit.

<url> published information concerning the journal "Bulletin of Tomsk State University".

Currently, the leadership of Tomsk State University and the editorial board of the journal are preparing documents confirming that this media has allowed itself to publish unverified facts that distort the real state of affairs.

Already in the title of the article "Another magazine from the "list of the Higher Attestation Commission" published a computer-generated article" contains at least two factual errors.

Firstly, the journal "Bulletin of Tomsk State University. Philosophy. Sociology. Political Science", in the section "Monologues. Dialogues. Discussions" of which V.B. Rhodes' essay "Darwinism" was published, is not included (and has never been included) in the "List ..." of the Higher Attestation Commission; on the general website of university journals (http://vestnik.tsu.ru /) information about it is posted in the heading "New scientific journals of Tomsk State University, not included in the "List ..." of the Higher Attestation Commission".

Secondly, the text "Darwinism", which caused a heated discussion on the pages of the Runet, was not written by a machine, in which the editorial board of the magazine "incriminates" Polit.<url>, and a real person is Valery Borisovich Rhodes, and it's easy to make sure of this for anyone with skills working with search engines on the Internet.

The third. As an illustration to this publication, "Another journal ...", the cover of the general scientific journal "Bulletin of Tomsk State University" is placed, which is indeed included in the "List ...", including on the recommendation of the expert council of the Higher Attestation Commission on philosophy, sociology and cultural studies.

You can get acquainted with the "List ...", for example, on the website of the Higher Attestation Commission. Note that this document contains not only the names of the periodicals included in it, but also indicates the numbers of magazines in one of the All-Russian subscription catalogs. The subscription number of the journal "Bulletin of Tomsk State University" is 46740 in the united catalog "Press of Russia"; the issue of the journal "Bulletin of Tomsk State University. Philosophy. Sociology. Political Science", published an essay by V.B. Rhodes, – 44046.

More detailed information about the journal "Bulletin of Tomsk State University. Philosophy. Sociology. Political Science" can be obtained on the website of this magazine:
Perhaps the structure of scientific journals containing the words "Bulletin of Tomsk State University" in their title may seem somewhat complicated, but for clarification it was enough to contact the management of any of these journals.

We express the hope that it will be watered.<url>, as well as other publications that have used unverified information, are also interested in providing the most objective coverage of this problem and clarifying the information already published.
