Let you get out!

The article of Russian homeopaths was withdrawn from the international scientific journal

Anna Kerman, XX2 century

The article, prepared by a team of Russian homeopaths, was withdrawn from the international scientific journal PLOS One. The material on the principles of the so-called "release-active drugs" was published in the publication on May 9, 2014.

The editorial board of PLOS One had two reasons for revoking the article at once. Firstly, the members of the editorial board doubted the scientific validity of the calculations given in the work. And secondly, the authors of the article, apparently, "forgot" to inform in a timely manner about the possible presence of a conflict of interest among some members of the team. Thus, among the authors of the withdrawn article is a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences Oleg Epstein. According to the directory of organizations in Russia list-org.com Mr. Epstein holds the post of General Director of the NPF "Materia Medica Holding", which funded the study.

Materia Medica Holding specializes in the production of so-called innovative drugs that are surprisingly similar to homeopathic ones. Thus, the flagship of the company, the antiviral drug "Anaferon", contains, as indicated in the instructions, "antibodies to human gamma interferon affine purified – 0.003 g *". Under the "asterisk" – important clarification: "they are applied to lactose monohydrate in the form of a water-alcohol mixture with a content of no more than 10-15 ng / g of the active form of the active substance." Approximately the same amount of active substance is contained in the drug for combating erectile dysfunction "Impaza", and in the remedy for the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the joints "Arthrofoon", and in many other "medicines" in the portfolio of "Materia Medica Holding".

Actually, attempts to study the effects of using a substance diluted to such an extent that the solution ceases to contain biochemically significant amounts of antibodies became the main claim of the PLOS One editorial board to the authors of the article. In addition, the editorial board of the international journal criticized the insufficiently detailed description of the methodology of the work. The authors of the study were ready to eliminate this shortcoming promptly, but this circumstance did not affect the decision to withdraw the article from publication.
