Scientists have proved it... Be careful – they could have been joking!

An authoritative physician invented the "cello scrotum syndrome"A well-known British expert on Alzheimer's disease and aging issues, Elaine Murphy, admitted that for the sake of a joke she invented "cellist scrotum syndrome", a report about which was published in the 1970s by the prestigious British Medical Journal.

A respected doctor, and now a member of the House of Lords, Baroness Murphy, was forced to confess by another publication in the BMJ, referring to her comic work.

According to the BBC, the duck was born from another message published in a prestigious medical publication. It reported on the "guitar nipple syndrome" – irritation of the nipple caused by the constant touch of the soundboard to the chest of guitarists.

"We decided that this was a joke, and decided to support her by reporting a similar phenomenon in cellists," Murphy and her husband, under whose name the message appeared 30 years ago, write in the latest issue of BMJ. – Anyone who has ever seen a cello being played understands that such a syndrome is physically impossible. But, to our amazement, the letter was published."

The representative of the magazine said that after 34 years, none of the employees of the publishing house is in danger of dismissal for an obviously implausible publication. According to him, perhaps the magazine will formally withdraw this article, but in any case, such cases "add fun to life."
