Finalists of Formula BIOTECH

25 innovative projects passed to the final of the acceleration program "Formula BIOTECH 2016"

Moscow Innovation Agency

On July 14, 2016, in the Scientific Park of Lomonosov Moscow State University, as part of the acceleration program "Formula BIOTECH 2016", young scientific entrepreneurs demonstrated prototypes of innovative products that were created over 5 months of work on current market problems posed by Russian biotechnology companies, and already have high commercial potential.

In February 2016, 42 teams started, 25 of which have reached today and were able to show market-demanded developments and even the first sales. New products are designed to help people or companies, depending on their field of application: biomedicine, medical instrumentation, cosmeceuticals, agriculture, agrotechnology, healthy and sports nutrition, etc. The partners of the program are Innopraktika and RVC. The main goal is to bring together the academic environment and Russian business in the field of biotechnology.

At the moment, the educational part of the program has been completed, while mentoring and work on projects continues. The final of the Formula BIOTECH 2016 program will be held in September 2016.

Oleg Movsesian, General Director of the MSU Science Park:
"25 projects out of 42 is a very high success rate, and for us this is the main indicator. We are very grateful to our partners, Innopraktika and RVC for their help with the involvement of industrial partners, because it was the solution of practical tasks relevant to the market that allowed Formula BIOTECH 2016 to prove the need and effectiveness of our accelerator model. Another criterion of success is the participants themselves – representatives of Moscow State University and other leading universities in Russia. I am sure that many of the Formula's projects will be able to receive initial support through another of our already traditional partners – the Innovation Promotion Fund – within the framework of the Start program.

Oleg Bocharov, Head of the Department of Science, Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship of the City of Moscow:
"Without such projects, the connection of science, personnel and the market is impossible. Therefore, it is very important for all of us that the format of Formula BIOTECH 2016 be scalable. If we start developing similar contests in various high-tech industries, where thousands of young people will be able to participate, and the result will be the emergence of new companies and new technologies being mastered, then such work makes sense. And it should launch a powerful investment and innovation stream."

Evgeny Kuznetsov, Acting General Director of RVC:
"In five months of work, the way has been overcome from setting tasks by the industrial partners of the program to creating prototypes. Strong teams have been formed, the participants have grown significantly in professional competencies and know how to further develop their projects. During the acceleration, it was possible to create effective links between teams and partners. Considerable efforts have yet to be made to bring products to the market, so we invite participants to apply to the GenerationS startup accelerator from RVC, the largest in Russia and Eastern Europe."
