According to the results of the GenerationS-2016 accelerator from RVC, more than 50 deals were concluded between technology entrepreneurs, corporations and investors. GenerationS graduates will conduct more than 30 pilot projects with accelerator partners to test business hypotheses and production processes.

Cooperation with corporations

GenerationS partner corporations have chosen the accelerator as a platform for implementing their own innovative programs and developing "open innovation" tools. Experts of the companies participated in the selection and acceleration of projects. QIWI, Moscow Exchange, Raiffeisenbank, VTB24, BFC Severny, Krastsvetmet, Alrosa, EFKO Group, Saturn NGO, Russian Technical Society, Publicis Communications Russia, Sher Oston Production Center plan to use the technologies and developments of accelerator participants in their production and business processes. Many technology entrepreneurs have signed cooperation agreements, launched pilot projects with corporations and were able to attract investments already during the acceleration program. Of the 120 startup teams that have been promoted to corporate accelerators, more than 70 have already signed agreements or are negotiating with corporations on cooperation.

Most of the deals and pilot projects took place in the fintech direction of GenerationS: startup teams have concluded 35 agreements with corporations and plan to conduct 19 pilot projects.

QIWI, an industrial partner of the fintech accelerator, has been developing an "open innovation" model for several years. In partnership with GenerationS, the venture direction of QIWI Group participates in the development of new fintech products together with technology entrepreneurs and searches for new portfolio companies among the accelerator participants. Following the results of the acceleration program, the corporation plans to cooperate with 4 GenerationS-2016 graduates: Simple Invest, Oz Photo Expert, Panda Money and Finhab.

With the Simple Invest project team, developers of the Russian Robinhood mobile application, QIWI conducted a pilot project that allowed testing key communication channels with users and testing various solutions. As a result, the startup team received a second tranche of funding from QIWI for further development and scaling of the product.

QIWI and the developers of the Oz Photo Expert project have launched a joint pilot project to test biometric identification to protect against fraud. The corporation plans to use Oz Photo Expert expertise in its products.

With the help of the Finhab team, QIWI plans to develop a convenient lending tool for a certain category of partners. In turn, the GenerationS partner company cooperates with the Panda Money team in the field of improving the financial literacy of children and their parents. In addition, QIWI actively interacts with other members of the GenerationS fintech direction, who may become partners of the corporation in the future.

"Participation in the GenerationS accelerator as an industrial partner gave us the opportunity to cover most of the Russian fintech market and work closely with the best projects for several months. During GenerationS, we were able to launch pilots, test key business hypotheses on projects and understand how certain joint products can be in demand or have value for our audience of customers and partners, as well as how they are integrated into the QIWI product infrastructure. In the future, we plan to work with projects to create full—fledged joint products," said Olga Turzhanskaya, director of the venture direction of the QIWI Group.

The Moscow Exchange, an industrial partner of GenerationS, carried out the selection of promising fintech projects in the field of big data, artificial intelligence, investment instruments based on exchange products, blockchain technology and crowdfunding during the accelerator. A total of 13 projects were selected, 9 reached the final. Throughout the acceleration program, project teams actively interacted with experts and mentors from the industrial partner. In particular, the Moscow Exchange conducted a joint pilot project with the Cindicator project team: for three weeks, a trading robot from Cindicator made transactions based on the collective opinion of non-professional traders. In total, during the competition, based on the forecasts of the participants, the robot modeled 27 transactions, 17 of which were profitable. As a result, during the competition, the model portfolio grew by 2.8% in foreign currency, which amounted to 47% per annum.

The partner of the fintech direction GenerationS VTB24 is preparing a joint pilot project with the Finhab team, which won the nomination "Best FinTech startup for B2B". Raiffeisenbank plans to launch pilot projects with the Oz Photo Expert, Eco Banking System and Thewaay project teams based on the results of the Raiffeisen Award special nomination.

In other areas of the accelerator, partner corporations and technology entrepreneurs are also launching pilot projects and planning further joint work. Thus, EFKO Group of Companies has been an industrial partner of the AgroBioTech&Food GenerationS track for the second year in a row. The company searches for new ideas and promising teams using the accelerator to cover all possible points of growth, not limited to the resources of its own R&D departments. EFKO Group will continue to work with five startups: "Green Technology Manufactory", "DNA test systems for the food industry", "Hybrid technologies for mixing and pre-sowing treatment of EcoMix seeds", "New technology for processing oil seed purification waste", "Technology for obtaining enzymes for detergents". As part of the cooperation, the company plans to test the applied developments of project teams, create pilot installations and refine startup technologies on them, and, if successful, assess the potential for implementation in its production. In addition, EFKO plans to become an anchor client for one of the startups.

"Considering the complexity of the track, we are pleased with the result of cooperation with GenerationS. The agro—industrial complex, especially agriculture and the processing industry of our country, needs a sharp increase in efficiency, and blind copying of imported technologies, without taking into account the specifics of real production and local conditions, will not give results," sums up the director of the Biryuch-NT center, the R&D center of EFKO Group, Tatiana Sanina. — Independent, targeted and thoughtful work is needed to cultivate domestic technologies and effective Russian researchers in the field of agrobiotech. This is a long way, but it will allow Russia to create real breakthrough products and world-class technologies in this direction."

GenerationS partner in the field of advertising and design Publicis Communications Russia has selected four teams of participating startups who have become residents of the communication group. Together with the winners of GenerationS-2016 — the BOFT project team — Publicis Communications Russia is developing new product offers within the framework of the existing vending service system and mobile application for the requests of major advertisers. With the developers of the VidiGuide cloud application, the GenerationS partner is working on a pilot implementation and full launch of the application in partnership with well-known cultural venues and major advertisers. Together with the Local Guide team, which has created a platform for ordering guides and services for tourists, the communication group is considering a partnership launch with the advertiser as part of the sponsorship of the football championship next year. In addition, Publicis Communications Russia is developing a proposal to launch a service with the developers of an application for finding cafes, bars and restaurants based on analytics from Tagvisor social networks.

Attracting investments

During the acceleration program, the GenerationS-2016 participants came to the attention of investors and were able to attract private capital that will help them in the further development of projects.

Business angel Alexander Rumyantsev invested nine GenerationS projects in his own nomination: the darenta car rental service. ru, personal training marketplace trainhub. net, the watermelon auction platform. su, the music social network grammygo. com, the patent community service. Russia, the service of services for gamers landroshop. com, the marketplace of the author's underwear trusbox. ru, recruitment service in social networks 2work. co and service for joint office rental officesharing. ru. In each of the deals, the investor received 10% of the startup.

"GenerationS provided an excellent opportunity to find new projects for investment. Initially, I had a plan to invest in five projects, but in the end I chose nine high-tech IT startups of various directions. I plan to continue cooperation with GenerationS," Alexander Rumyantsev said.

Two more GenerationS projects have received investment offers from the VentureClub investor club. The club members are ready to invest 100 thousand dollars in the team of the Moscow startup Cindicator, which is engaged in predictive market analytics for hedge funds and individual investors, and 50 thousand dollars in the Arena Leader project - a platform for integrating engineering systems to ensure the safety of public spaces.

"GenerationS gives corporations and investors an opportunity to get acquainted with projects in the format of an acceleration program and decide on cooperation. We are glad that for more than half of the GenerationS participants, the accelerator ends every year with joint projects with corporations and investment deals," commented Gulnara Bikkulova, Deputy General Director of RVC and ideologist of GenerationS.

According to the previously conducted monitoring of GenerationS graduates, investments attracted 27% of the companies surveyed, the amount of investments amounted to 1.13 billion rubles, the total business valuation — 2.2 billion rubles.
