"As for conservatism in promoting new technological solutions to the market, only metallurgists can be worse than doctors." Mikhail Filonov, Vice–Rector for Science and Innovation of the National Research Technological University "MISIS", shared such an unexpected observation, taking into account the context, with the organizers and participants of the Pharma's cool - 2016 educational program.

The program, which started on March 28 at NUST MISIS, is devoted to research and development of new medicines, the basics of their commercialization and trends in the biotechnology market. The organizers are the cluster of Biological and medical technologies of the Skolkovo Foundation, the Skolkovo Open University, the Bayer biomedical company and NUST MISIS. "Today is a very pleasant moment that allows us to look with optimism into the future, together with the Skolkovo Foundation and Bayer, in a new direction for us, a metallurgical university," Mr. Filonov said. In 2014, the Biomedical Nanomaterials laboratory was opened at the university – the first MISIS laboratory working at the intersection of medicine and materials science. Her research team has achieved good results by developing a drug for early diagnosis of cancer. It is expected that the head of the laboratory, Alexander Mazhuga, will give a lecture at Pharma's cool.

Kirill Kayem, Vice-president of the Skolkovo Foundation, head of the biomedical cluster, prefaced his speech with a blitz survey on the professional affiliation of those gathered in the hall and stated: the audience is quite targeted (doctors, pharmacists and biologists). K. Kayem gave them a lecture "Tools to support scientific research" and answered questions, of which there were many, and not only special (for example, whether there will be a vivarium in Skolkovo for conducting clinical trials), but also general (in particular, which teams can count on support from the Skolkovo Foundation and how this development institute differs from others).

As told in an interview with Sk.ru Kamila Zarubina, project manager of the biomedical cluster "Skolkovo", "the program is being held for the third time; in previous years, about 50 participants were registered – young scientists who attended lectures." "This year, as of March 25, about 600 people have registered, and registration has not yet been closed. Participants (these are young scientists, students and postgraduates) will learn at lectures about how drugs are created – all the way from the idea, searching for a molecule, conducting research, selecting the best molecule to bringing a drug to market, marketing, branding and selling. This is a global monthly project dedicated only to medicines – from the idea to registration," K. Zarubina explained.

The increased interest of students, postgraduates and young professionals in the Pharma's cool program is also confirmed by the Executive Director of the Skolkovo Open University, Andrey Egorov. "Despite the fact that the 2014 and 2015 programs were successful and about 500 people visited each of them, this year this registration figure was reached a week before the start of the program. We really hope that the hospitable MISIS platform will accommodate everyone." In his welcoming speech on the occasion of the launch of the program , Andrey Egorov spoke about the implemented and upcoming OtUS programs and stated: "We already have success stories. Someone creates their own startups and becomes a resident of the Skolkovo Foundation. Someone is opening online educational platforms. Someone is engaged in agricultural technologies. Someone enters Skoltech and continues his scientific career."
