RVC Biofund invests in breast cancer diagnostics

The RVC biofund together with the NGO "Fund for Modernization and Technology Development" invested in the company "RTM Diagnostics". The company specializes in the development and manufacture of devices for the diagnosis of breast cancer. The total investment amounted to 43 million rubles. The funds will be used for research activities, improvement of the screening platform and development of new generations of diagnostic devices.

The developments of RTM Diagnostics are based on the method of microwave radiothermometry and surpass competing technologies in terms of sensitivity and specificity of screening, as well as the absolute harmlessness of the procedure for patients – they can be used as an express diagnostic method in pregnant and lactating women.

"Within the next 12 months, the company will have the opportunity to launch into mass production an updated device for safe and effective screening diagnostics of oncological diseases. The mobility of the equipment and the visual presentation of the results will make early cancer diagnosis accessible to patients from as wide a range of medical institutions as possible," comments Egor Beketov, Director of the RVC Biofund.

The method of microwave radiothermometry allows you to obtain information about temperature anomalies of body tissues at a depth of several centimeters. The previous version of the diagnostic complex RTM-01-RES, designed to detect breast cancer, has a sensitivity of 85-92% and a specificity of 70-75%, which is confirmed by seven clinical trials in Russia and the USA. The developed complex also demonstrates high efficiency in the diagnosis of diseases in such areas as phlebology, urology, brain, skin cancer (melanoma), etc.

Further development of the project involves the expansion of the line of portable devices, as well as the adaptation of technology to the diagnosis of various types of oncological diseases.
"The introduction of the microwave radiothermometry method into medical practice will allow detecting oncological diseases at the earliest stages, when the probability of treatment success is several times higher," notes Sergey Vesnin, founder of RTM Diagnostics and author of the project.

"The device being developed will find wide application in various fields of medicine, and its subsequent generations will be able to make a real revolution in the development of microwave diagnostics," says Vyacheslav Reshetnik, co–investor, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the NGO Fund for Modernization and Technology Development.
