The First National Association of Biobanks and Biobanking Specialists (NASBio) was established in Russia with the support of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. The Association aims to develop a network of biobanks in Russia in accordance with the task of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation to create a full-fledged network of biobanks, depositories and collections of biomaterials in the country by 2020.

"The NASBio Association is designed to unite the efforts of Russian specialists in the field of biobanking, to establish their interaction with each other and the professional community. The association's activities will focus on the introduction into practice of Russian biobanks of uniform standards and methodological approaches adopted in international practice, assistance in the development and implementation of projects in cooperation with research centers and pharmaceutical companies, the development of cooperation with international specialized organizations (ISBER, BBMRI-ERIC, etc.), as well as educational programs in the field of biobanking", – noted in the press service.

The NASBio participants included the Center for Strategic Planning and Management of Biomedical Health Risks, "NMIC of Preventive Medicine" of the Ministry of Health of Russia, NMIC of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology named after V.I. Kulakov, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, N.F. Gamalei FNITSEM, Institute of Cytology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, The Institute of Regenerative Medicine of the Moscow State University, the Medical and Genetic Research Center, the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, the National BioService Company, etc.

"The creation of a network of biobanks will help to effectively search for new therapeutic and diagnostic methods, identify biomarkers that determine the effectiveness and safety of certain treatment methods. This is especially relevant in connection with the development and widespread introduction of personalized medicine. In particular, joint work in this area will allow a large number of scientists and practitioners to participate in the implementation of the state program of the National Technological Initiative (NTI) to create a network of biobanks for research purposes within the framework of the development of the "roadmap" in the direction of HealthNet, to participate in important research projects leading to the creation of new medicines and diagnostic tests"- the press service quotes the words of the vice-president of NASBio, head of the working group on informatization and harmonization of databases Sergey Anisimov.

"Biobanking in Russia is becoming not only an integrating link between medical centers and biomedical developers, but also a driver of the research activity itself. Significant progress in this direction is evident, especially in the area of involving Russian participants in the global R&D process, and, as a result, improving the quality and level of the developments themselves in accordance with international standards," said Vitaly Prutsky, Director General of National BioService.

National BioService (NBS) is Russia's first research biobank and bioservices operating in strict accordance with international standards and principles of ethics, transparency and mutually beneficial cooperation with customers and partners.

The National BioService serves as a key element of the biomedical research infrastructure in Russia, deeply integrated into international activities to improve human health and develop personalized medicine.

NBS provides a wide range of professional services in the field of search, laboratory processing, analysis and storage of biological samples, as well as the development of products and materials for research purposes based on cellular and tissue technologies.

NBS is a portfolio company of the Biofund of a Russian venture company, and is also one of the HealthNet market companies of the National Technology Initiative.

The first NASBio profile conference was held on April 9 as part of the XXVI Russian National Congress "Man and Medicine" in Moscow, the press service of the National BioService company reported.

About biobanking

Biobanking is the process of collecting, processing, storing and analyzing biological materials necessary for research activities. The activity of biobanks all over the world is a necessary element of the development of modern medical science, contributes to the development and appearance of new medicines on the market, the development of regenerative and personalized medicine, as well as the introduction of innovative diagnostic tools into clinical practice. In Russia, a project to create its own network of research biobanks has been approved for implementation as part of the HealthNet roadmap of the National Technology Initiative (NTI).
