Izhevsk biochips for cell immunophenotyping are looking for investors

Scientists in Izhevsk have developed biochips for cell diagnostics

According to Alexander Shishkin, head of the educational and experimental laboratory of the Izhevsk State Medical Academy, Izhevsk biochips have certain advantages over foreign analogues in terms of price and quality.

The biochip developed in Izhevsk is a solid substrate on which antibody molecules capable of binding to surface antigens of cells are immobilized in strictly defined areas," writes TASS.

The scientist noted that the methods currently used are "very expensive and allow determining a smaller number of antigens," and the systems proposed by Izhevsk scientists are extremely cheap and can be used even in a conventional laboratory.

According to him, biochips can be used to perform mass screening examinations of the population in order to identify pathologies occurring on the part of the cellular link.

The market value of one [chip] is 300-400 rubles. According to Shishkin, the demand of the Russian market in the case of using systems in hematology can be up to 200-300 thousand units per year, in clinical immunology – from 20-30 million chips, and if the analysis using biochips is included in the federal program of medical examination of the population, then up to 100 million or more copies annually.

To create an enterprise for the production of 350 thousand biochips per year, it will take 30-40 million rubles of investment, for the production of 40 million chips per year – 310-500 million rubles, excluding taxes. Revenue from the release of 310 thousand biochips at a price of 250 rubles apiece is planned at the level of 77.5 million rubles per year.
