Overview of the global pharmaceutical market

Drug development begins with the synthesis of the drug, then the drug undergoes preclinical trials (on animals), clinical trials (on humans, phases I - III), and only after that it goes on sale. The largest number of drugs are created for the treatment of cancer, infectious diseases, diseases of the central nervous system. The entire process of bringing the drug to the market takes 6-12 years, and the cost of developing the drug is 600-1200 million US dollars.

At the same time, out of 100,000 substances studied, only 100 pass clinical trials, only 10 of them go on sale and only 2 make a profit. Nevertheless, the revenues of pharmaceutical companies are increasing every year.
