A new way to improve libido in men and women was found

An "underestimated hormone" can improve the sex lives of people with low libido, scientists have found.

Scientists from Imperial College London claim that the hormone kisspeptin can help men and women who suffer from low libido.

Kisspeptin is naturally found in the human body. It regulates the release of sex hormones and ensures normal reproductive function. The hormone plays a vital role at the beginning of puberty in both men and women. According to research, kisspeptin can stimulate the bundles of nerve fibers in the brain that are "responsible" for people's sex drive.

"Kisspeptin enhances feelings of romantic love. Our study showed that the hormone increases brain activity associated with attraction, and, interestingly, this stimulating effect is even higher in men with low libido," the scientists explained.

The authors of the study conducted two experiments with separate groups of subjects. The first experiment involved 32 heterosexual women between the ages of 19 and 48, and the second involved 32 heterosexual men between the ages of 21 and 52. Subjects in both studies completed the questionnaire twice during the experiment; once when they were given kisspeptin and again when they received a placebo.

When given kisspeptin and placebo, subjects in both experiments watched erotic videos and regular content. Meanwhile, the researchers mapped the subjects' brain activity using MRI scans. During the experiments, participants were not told which infusion (hormone or placebo) they received.

At the end of the first experiment, female participants admitted feeling an improvement in their sex drive. Some subjects felt "sexier" when they were injected with kisspeptin. On MRI scans, scientists found an increase in the pathways in the brain that are responsible for attraction after the administration of kisspeptin. For example, the hormone increased activity in the hippocampus area in women. This part of the brain is mainly related to the sex drive. No such changes were observed during placebo administration.

Interestingly, the researchers recorded similar results in the second study, involving men. Kisspeptin helped the subjects feel more confident, in addition, their erections increased. The use of this hormone is a radical new solution to the problem of low libido. It works for both sexes and affects brain function. In addition, according to the scientists, all participants in the study had no side effects.
