Neuralink continues experiments

A neurochip for transmitting data between the brain and a computer. Tests on monkeys

XX2 century

The Neuralink company founded by Elon Musk continues to develop the neurointerface.

Following the experiments on pigs (which we wrote about in August last year), the technology is being tested on a monkey. Musk announced this at a closed online meeting at the Clubhouse. The founder of Neuralink promises to publish a video with a detailed story about the experiments within a month.

Earlier, Musk announced that the company in the short term aims to create devices for the treatment of serious brain diseases, and the ultimate goal is to improve people. For example, it is assumed that telepathy will become possible. It is clear that this is still far away – after all, to create such a technology, you need to learn not only to read brain signals, but also to transmit them in a form acceptable to the brain. That, no matter what Musk says, is still a long way off.

The result of Neuralink's work should be a chip for connecting the human brain to a computer.

A monkey with a chip implanted in his brain, according to the Mask, is healthy and happy, and the electronics in his head gives him the opportunity to play computer games.

One of Mask's subscribers in On Twitter, someone Hamoon Kamai wrote to him that he had been paralyzed for 20 years after a car accident and was ready to take part in clinical trials. On February 2, Musk replied that Neuralink is working hard to ensure the safety of implants, and is in close contact with the FDA, and if everything goes well, the first human trials will take place this year.

It is difficult to judge how justified Musk's optimism is (another example of unrestrained optimism is the five–year deadline for readiness for a manned flight to Mars announced during the already mentioned meeting at the Clubhouse). It is known that wearing electronic implants for two months did not hurt pigs (the devices have already been removed). But there have been no detailed publications about the experiment, especially in scientific peer-reviewed journals.
