Workers with low earnings who receive at least a minimum wage increase are significantly less likely to get sick than those workers who do not receive salary increases.

salary.gifThe study, conducted by the University of California, aimed to find out how the size of wages affects the health of workers. His results are published in the BE Journal of Economic Analysis & Policy (Effects of Minimum Wages on Absence from Work Due to Illness).

As part of a group study, Professor Paul Leigh and his colleagues studied the data of 19,000 people (from 5,000 American households). The questions answered by the participants concerned information about employment, salary level, hourly wages, health level and absenteeism due to illness. The age of the participants ranged from 25 to 64 years, the data was collected in the period from 1997 to 2013.

The results of the study showed that an increase in wages by only $ 1 per hour led to a 32% reduction in absences due to illness. Further analysis showed that such an increase in wages led to the fact that workers more often rated their health as "excellent" and "excellent".

Scientists also found that the increase in the minimum wage did not affect the absence from work due to illnesses of family members, for example, children.

"Our study shows the benefits of even a slight increase in the minimum wage, since in this case employees take sick leave less often and feel better," Professor Ley concluded.

Earlier it was reported that scientists from Purdue University in the USA found out that there is a certain level of happiness that can be purchased for money. It turned out that the average "happiness ceiling" is $95,000 per year per person (about 5.5 million rubles), and at least $60,000-75,000 (about 3.5–4 million rubles) - for a sense of emotional well-being. For family happiness, this monetary ceiling is much higher – in proportion to the number of family members.

And according to the research published According to the American Psychological Association, people who earn more money tend to experience more positive emotions focused on themselves, while those who earn less get more pleasure "from others", that is, from their relationships with them and the ability to communicate.
