Grandmothers are burning!

A new female group with an average age of 84 years has appeared in Japan

KBG84 is a one-of-a-kind girl group in Japan, consisting of 33 singing and dancing grandmothers, with an average age of 84. The oldest participant, Haru Yamashiro, is 97 years old! The new band, based on the remote island of Kohama, Okinawa province, is so popular in the country that the members were stunned by such success. Their first single, "Let's Dance", shot on the island, instantly hit the top charts, and the grandmothers recently completed a tour of Japan.

"When I first heard someone call us "idols," I thought that the idol was someone who had lived a long life and stood at the gates of heaven," said 92-year-old diva Tomi Menaka. "But in Tokyo, they told me about this entertainer, who breathed a sigh of relief when he learned that I was not aspiring to heaven yet." "We felt like stars in Tokyo," added 86-year-old Hideko Kedamori. "A sincere smile shone on all the faces of the people gathered in the hall, charging us with energy, making our hearts sing. We are happy that we were born on Kohama. Our poems are about the island and nature: gushing whales and dolphins jumping out of the depths of the sea."

Regardless of the lyrics, these older women are incredibly cute when they perform. Their energy and enthusiasm is amazing considering their age. In fact, participants under the age of 80 are not invited to the group. The very name KBG84 was formed as a parody of the popular Japanese girl group AKB48. While the number "48" refers to the number of participants in the teenage group, "84" means the average age of the group of grandmothers.

It turns out that the newly minted pop queens are blessed with the power of incredible genes, the islands of Okinawa have one of the highest life expectancy rates in the world. Their diet consists mainly of vegetables and local sweet potatoes of purple color, with almost zero sugar content. Menaka said she is not capricious in her diet, but keeps herself in shape by doing housework. "I look healthy thanks to cleaning the house, mopping the floors, cooking rice," she said. "I stay in the shade when it's too hot outside, I don't like to sunbathe. I have to take care of my skin because I'm young at heart!"

KBG84 is the brainchild of Japanese musician Kikuo Tsuchida, who has been living on Kohama for 20 years. The band recently signed an album recording contract and gathers full houses, mainly consisting of middle-aged and older audiences. Usually, film crews constantly revolve around elderly participants, but despite their stellar status, grandmothers will always find time for ordinary things, enjoying a cup of fragrant tea.

Russia is not far behind Japan in terms of creative teams, our "Buranov grandmothers" have been performing since 2000 and managed to take part in Eurovision in 2012.
