Galleri test allows you to identify more than 50 types of tumors, including lung, bowel and pancreatic cancers by blood at an early stage. As you know, early detection of cancer increases survival by 5-10 times, so scientists have high hopes for a new simple diagnostic method.

This week, a large-scale cancer test study is being launched in the UK with the participation of 140 thousand volunteers from 50 to 77 years old. Participants will have to donate blood samples, and then repeat the procedure after one or two years, writes The Guardian. People without suspicion of cancer were accepted to participate in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the test as a simple screening method.

The blood test determines the DNA fragments released by the tumor into the bloodstream.

This approach makes it possible to identify cancer at the earliest stage, when clinical symptoms are not yet manifested.

The first test results are planned to be received by 2023. If they are successful, about a million more volunteers will be invited to participate in the period from 2024 to 2025.

Meanwhile, the new test is already available in the USA. Clinical studies completed there earlier have shown that it is informative for the diagnosis of more than 50 types of tumors. For example, the test identifies about 67% of the twelve most common types of tumors, which currently account for about two-thirds of cancer deaths, and about 41% of all cancers.

Among the most common tumors determined by the test, there are cancers of the lungs, intestines, pancreas, ovaries, liver, esophagus, cervix, prostate, as well as some types of oncohematological diseases. The introduction of the test into routine clinical practice should significantly reduce cancer mortality due to the early detection of tumors at the operable stage, scientists hope.
