Scientists have discovered that it is better to be rich and healthy…

Study: Well-being increases life expectancy

RIA NewsWealthier people live longer, writes The Wall Street Journal (The Richer You Are the Older You'll Get) with reference to a study by Barry Bosworth, an economist at the Brookings Institution Research (USA).

This is also confirmed by an earlier study conducted by the US Social Security Administration (Mortality Differences by Lifetime Earnings Decile: Implications for Evaluations of Proposed Social Security Law Changes).

The economist analyzed statistics from the University of Michigan Health and Retirement Research, which collected information about the health of 26 thousand Americans as they age and retire.

Wealthy men live longerThe study showed that the average life expectancy of the well-off segments of the population is growing faster than the life expectancy of the poor.

The study provides data according to which men who were born in 1940 and received the highest income in their age group, after 55 years, are likely to live up to 89-90 years. In turn, men, who make up 10% of the poorest people in their age category, can expect to live only up to 79 years.

Life expectancy of low-income women is decliningHowever, regardless of the fact that women with any income level live longer than men, Barry Bosworth revealed a striking fact: the life expectancy of low-income women not only decreases, but also increases much more slowly with increasing income.

The expert notes that later retirement does not affect the life expectancy of wealthy people, which cannot be said about low-income segments of the population.
