An endocrinologist explained whether coffee helps you get rid of excess fat

British scientists reported that it is possible to reduce the amount of excess fat in the body by drinking coffee four times a day before meals. How effective this method of fighting obesity is, commented doctor-endocrinologist of the Moscow State University Clinic, Doctor of Medical Sciences Zuhra Pavlova.

About how the study was conducted, scientists told in a publication on the website of the Harvard School of Public Health.

"The study found that drinking four cups of coffee a day can reduce fat deposits by about 4%. The conclusion comes from a 24-week experiment in which 126 overweight, non-insulin-sensitive adults drank either four cups of regular coffee or four cups of placebo coffee daily. The purpose of the study was to determine if coffee consumption reduced the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In the current study, coffee had no effect on the study participants' sensitivity to insulin, a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. However, there was an unexpected result: coffee consumption was associated with some loss of body fat," the authors of the paper reported.

"First, if you drink coffee before meals, the nutrient value of food will be sharply reduced. That is, many useful substances will be poorly assimilated. There is a high risk that the body will be deficient in vitamins B and A, magnesium, but above all, calcium. With its deficiency in the blood we will start to increase the activity of parathyroid glands and parat hormone. This is fundamentally important because all our muscles, including the heart muscle, contract with the active participation of calcium molecules. It is unwise to reduce the volume of fat tissue in this way. There are many other safe ways", - explained Zuhra Pavlova.

She noted that coffee, a favorite of many people, is a really useful drink. "It both prolongs youth and protects against dementia, but if you use it correctly. It is one or two cups a day (without sugar and milk), an hour after meals and medications. And be sure to drink coffee with water to avoid dehydration," advised Zukhra Pavlova.
