National Health Monitoring of Russians
The All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) presents data on how Russians take care of their health and what they do in case of problems.
Every third Russian can boast of a good state of health today (35%), every second considers his health satisfactory (49%). 15% of respondents give negative assessments of their well–being (this proportion is higher among women - 18% than among men – 10%). In the last four years, this share of the sample as a whole has changed slightly, whereas in comparison with 2006 it has decreased markedly (from 24%).
Seven out of ten Russians (71%) are satisfied with the health of their loved ones, more than a quarter (27%), on the contrary, are not satisfied (there are significantly more of them among people with poor financial situation – 46%, than among those who consider their situation good and very good - 12%).
The citizens of our country primarily blame work and stress (35%), as well as the lack of money for medicines and disease prevention (35%), poor ecology (32%) for health problems (at home and loved ones). At the same time, if the significance of the first factor has significantly decreased in two years (from 47% in 2015), then material difficulties began to be indicated as the causes of diseases twice as often (from 17%).
In case of diseases, 46% of respondents today, as two years ago, go to a state polyclinic, more than a third (35%) self-medicate, every tenth (11%) goes to a paid medical institution. The rest either let things take their course, or resort to the help of healers (4% and 1%, respectively).
Mikhail Mamonov, Head of the VTSIOM Political Analysis and Consulting Practice, comments on the data.: "The situation in the healthcare sector as a whole is extremely difficult and the indicators of self-assessment of the state of health once again testify to this. Over the past year, the work of medical institutions has been causing more and more complaints regarding the availability and quality of services. This indirectly affects the assessment of their condition. An extremely disturbing fact is the large size of the self-treatment group. Again, this indicates both the level of trust in medical institutions and the availability of medical services themselves. In addition, we note that improving the situation in healthcare today is one of the key requests of the population to the authorities. This request is only getting stronger."
The initiative All-Russian VTSIOM-Sputnik survey was conducted on April 23-24, 2017. Russians aged 18 and over take part in the survey. The survey method is a telephone interview based on a stratified two–base random sample of fixed and mobile numbers with a volume of 1200 respondents. The sample is based on a complete list of phone numbers involved in the territory of the Russian Federation. The data are weighted by the probability of selection and by socio-demographic parameters. For this sample, the maximum error size with a 95% probability does not exceed 3.5%. In addition to the sampling error, the wording of questions and various circumstances arising during field work can make a bias in the survey data.
In 2006-2015, apartment surveys were conducted.
