Scientists have studied the relationship of daytime rest to a person's cognitive abilities

Short daytime naps have a positive effect on a person's cognitive abilities, while long naps, on the contrary, disrupt circadian rhythms. The scientists' conclusions are published by the journal The Conversation.

It is noted that the usefulness of short-term sleep during daylight hours has been confirmed by numerous studies. It is necessary to sleep for about 20 minutes. Such sleep will improve attention and memory, as well as increase the alertness and reaction of a person.

At the same time, it is emphasized that it is short-term sleep that has a positive effect on our brain. And here a long (more than 30 minutes) has rather a negative effect. "Rested" feels lethargy and disorientation. Also, mental abilities are reduced (and, moreover, until the end of the day).

Prolonged daytime sleep can also "interfere" with nighttime sleep. Some subjects have complained of not being able to fall asleep at the right time.

Such disruptions to the circadian rhythm (sleep-wake cycles) can have a negative impact on health, doctors warned. Lack of sleep increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and hypercholesterolemia.
