A unique way to prolong life

American presidents turned out to be long-lived<url>
The work of the president does not have a negative impact on the likely life expectancy.

This is reported by The New York Times (Being President Is Tough but Usually Not Fatal, a Study Concludes) with reference to a study by an employee of the University of Chicago Stuart Olshansky (Stuart Jay Olshansky).

Most US presidents have lived longer than other American men of their time. At the same time, all living heads of state have either already lived longer than American men on average, or are expected to do so.

In order to refute the popular idea of the negative impact of presidential work on life expectancy, the researcher, in particular, analyzed data on average life expectancy and calculated how long presidents lived after the inauguration. It turned out that the work of the president does not shorten life (heads of state who died as a result of assassination attempts were excluded from the calculations).

Olshansky became interested in this problem when he heard talk that Barack Obama, once in the White House, began to age quickly (for example, his hair began to turn gray).

Four presidents have lived for more than 90 years. Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan died at 93, John Adams and Herbert Hoover at 90.
