Against ageism

The Royal Society for Public Health of Great Britain (The Royal Society for Public Health, RSPH) urged not to use the word "anti-aging" in the cosmetics industry. The study (That Age Old Question) is published on the organization's website.

The report emphasizes that the frequent use of the word "anti-aging" exposes aging as a negative process and makes people shy of their age. The researchers blamed the beauty industry for this.

"We have found out how beneficial a positive attitude to aging can be for health and well-being. Nevertheless, the discussions of aging that are conducted in the media represent old age as a catastrophe," the report of the Royal Society says.

According to the study, 49 percent of women and 23 percent of men feel the pressure of society, which forces them to resort to various services to preserve youth and beauty. The report calls to stop fighting the signs of aging, because it is senseless and dangerous, and also to get rid of discrimination against older people. The researchers stressed that aging is a natural process.

In August 2017, Allure magazine refused to use the word "anti-aging" to stop promoting aging as a condition that needs to be stopped or slowed down. The editors called on the industry to gradually change its view of the problem of age coverage in the media and "glorify beauty at any age."
