Russia has entered the top 5 ranking of countries in terms of life expectancy growth

"Such results were achieved, among other things, due to a significant reduction in mortality from the main causes," said the Director of the Department of Public Health and Communications of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

Russia has entered the top five of 188 countries in the international rating on the increase in life expectancy, said Oleg Salagai, Director of the Department of Public Health and Communications of the Ministry of Health of Russia.

A large-scale project to assess life expectancy and healthy life expectancy in 188 countries has been implemented by a group of international researchers. They estimated the time interval from 1990 to 2005 and from 2005 to 2013.

In our country, the increase in life expectancy for men during this time was +7.34 years, healthy life – +6.52 years.

At the same time, in the USA, such indicators were 1.29 years and 1.06 years, respectively, in Germany – 1.59 and 1.16 years, Brazil – 1.79 and 1.46 years, China – 2.26 and 1.88 years. Thus, Russia ranks fourth and fifth out of 188 in terms of the growth of OPJ and OPJ in men. The Russian Federation also occupies a high position in the ranking and by similar indicators in women.

"Such results were achieved, among other things, due to a significant reduction in mortality from the main causes, as well as a record reduction in infant and maternal mortality for our country," Salagai said.

At the same time, according to the representative of the ministry, "it should be taken into account that the conditions of the "competition of countries" in the rating were not equal: due to objective historical reasons, mortality in Russia increased, and life expectancy decreased until the early 2000s."

"However, the state's attention to social issues, including medicine, has significantly turned the situation around," Salagai stressed.
