AIDS is gone, but cancer is back

The first patient cured of HIV was diagnosed with cancer in the last stage

Izvestia

The first ever fully cured of HIV patient, American Timothy Ray Brown, suffers from blood cancer in the last stage. This is reported by Independent.

"I'm still glad I had it [the transplant]. It opened doors that didn't exist before and inspired scientists to work harder to find a cure. Many began to think that this was impossible," the publication quotes Brown as saying.

In March, doctors confirmed the complete cure of HIV for the second person in history. It was Adam Castillejo, 40, who lives in London. To cope with the disease, diagnosed in 2003, the patient was helped by a bone marrow stem cell transplant as part of cancer treatment, which he also suffered from.
