RIA News

As part of the program for the development of genetics in Russia, three world-class genetic centers will be created, which are expected to spend 12.2 billion rubles, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova told reporters.

"Yesterday we held the presidium of the Council for the federal scientific program on genetics. We have four areas there – biosafety, bio–independence; genetic technologies in medicine and genetic technologies in agriculture, genetic technologies in industrial microbiology," Golikova said.

"In addition, within the framework of this program, it is planned to create three world–class genetic centers, for which it is expected to spend quite decent money – 12.2 billion rubles, of which almost 90% are federal budget funds," she said. Golikova noted that it is necessary to combine all that has now been developed in this area, "focusing efforts not only on the fundamental, but also on the subsequent applied nature of these studies."
