Death Quality Rating

Russia ranked 48th in the world ranking of the "quality of death"

Russia ranked 48th out of 80 in the world ranking of the "Quality of Death" (Quality of Death Index), according to the results of an international study presented by the British edition of the Economist.

The leaders of the list have changed little since 2010, when it was compiled for the first time: the first three places were taken by the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. They are followed by Ireland, Belgium, Taiwan and Germany. The USA and France complete the top ten. Iraq took the last place, RIA Novosti reports.

In the organization's report, experts note that the "quality of death" is often higher in rich highly developed countries.

The calculation of the death quality index is carried out by specialists of the research unit of the British Economist magazine (Economist Intelligence Unit, EIU) on behalf of the philanthropic organization from Singapore Lien Foundation.

When calculating, EIU specialists were guided by both qualitative aspects of caring for elderly and terminally ill patients, and quantitative indicators – the average life expectancy in the country, the rate of population aging (for the period from 2015 to 2030), financial spending on healthcare and the availability of effective painkillers.

This index is an expanded version of the 2010 index. The researchers assessed 80 countries using 20 indicators, including: the overall development of palliative care and health care, human resources, accessibility and quality of medical care, and the level of public engagement.

In 2010, Russia was ranked 35th out of 40 countries.

It should be noted that in the Quality of Life Index, which the EIU last compiled in 2005, Russia ranked 105th in the list.
