The European Association of Business Angels (EBAN) has decided to hold its next congress in April 2012 in Russia, Chairman of the Management Board of Rusnano Anatoly Chubais said on Wednesday in his blog.

The upcoming EBAN Congress will be held in Russia for the first time.

"This means that 150-200 of the most experienced and successful European business angels will come to us," Chubais wrote.

He noted that the future congress is a unique opportunity to establish contacts for both Russian investors and startups.

"There is an idea to show Europeans one of the regions where the innovative economy is developing dynamically. There is already something to show, and not only from the three undisputed leaders – Kazan-Tomsk-Novosibirsk, but also from the actively catching up with the second echelon of innovative regions," the head of Rusnano wrote.

Business angels are individuals and legal entities that invest part of their own funds in innovative companies at the earliest stages of development – "seed" and "initial" (start–up). The volume of "business angel" investments in one company ranges from several tens of thousands to a million dollars. The purpose of investments is to increase the value of invested companies through the development and promotion of high–tech products to the market.

The annual EBAN Congress is a key event of the early stage venture capital market in Europe. Its participants are up to 500 representatives of leading European and international associations of business angels, seed funds, service providers, public authorities and state development institutions.
