Google launches a project dedicated to health

Copper newsGoogle has announced the launch of a new project.

Calico will be engaged in research aimed at protecting health, treating age-related diseases and potentially increasing life expectancy. The company will be headed by the chairman of the Board of Directors of Apple and the head of the pharmaceutical company Genentech Arthur Levinson (Arthur D. Levinson).

"Illness and old age have an impact on our families. I think that in the long term, working in the field of healthcare and biotechnology, we will be able to improve the lives of millions of people," Google announces Calico, a new company focused on health and well–being, quoted the words of the corporation's co-founder Larry Page in the official message.

Page also stated that Calico is a long–term project and you should not expect instant returns from it. In his interview with Time magazine, Google vs. Death (in the picture – the cover of the issue – VM) Page pointed to 10-20 years as the most realistic time for the appearance of the first results of the new project.

Recall that Google has already tried to engage in health-related projects. In particular, the corporation has already launched the Google Health service, which provided users with the ability to store their medical records online. It was closed in 2011 after three years of existence. Then Page said that the service failed to win the interest of the general public.

Another Google project related to improving human life is Project Loon, with its help, the corporation wants to bring the Internet to hard-to-reach places on Earth, using balloons for this. In addition, the company supports a service in which notifications of emergencies and missing people appear.
