Homeopathy financing: Where is the government looking?

The British Medical Association opposed state funding of homeopathyCopper news
UK doctors have opposed government funding of homeopathy, the BBC reports (Doctors call for NHS to stop funding homeopathy).

Participants of the annual conference of the British Medical Association (BMA) voted to end financial support for this method of treatment from the National Health Service of the country (NHS).

Medical experts called homeopathic medicines useless, and homeopathy was described as a potentially dangerous method of treatment. According to experts, the support of homeopathy contributes to the rejection of patients from traditional therapy based on the principles of evidence-based medicine.

The NHS provides financial support to four specialized clinics, and also pays for a huge number of prescriptions for homeopathic medicines. About four million pounds are allocated annually from the country's budget for these purposes.

Speaking at the BMA conference, therapist Mary McCarthy noted that according to the results of numerous clinical trials, the effectiveness of homeopathic medicines does not go beyond the placebo effect. Dr. Tom Dolphin added that by supporting homeopathy, British society risks moving away from scientific principles and returning to the magical perception of reality.

Several dozen supporters of homeopathy organized a protest outside the building where the BMA conference was held. In their opinion, the NHS spends only a small part of its budget on supporting homeopathy. In addition, representatives of the British Society of Homeopaths (The Society of Homeopaths) stated that there is evidence confirming the effectiveness of this method of treatment.
