If you want to live a long time, don't get bored!

Scientists have established a relationship between boredom and early death
Copper newsBoring life increases the risk of premature death by almost one and a half times, reports The Daily Telegraph (You really can be bored to death, study shows).

This conclusion was reached by a group of British researchers led by Martin Shipley from University College London. Report on their work (Annie Britton and Martin J Shipley, Bored to death?) published in the International Journal of Epidemiology.

The researchers studied the data of 7524 employed citizens aged 35 to 55 years, who in the mid-1980s estimated how boring their life was. After that, the scientists found out how many participants of the study remained alive by April 2009.

The study found that the risk of premature death among those who called their life boring was 40 percent higher than the same indicator in the group of workers who characterized their lives differently. Scientists called diseases of the cardiovascular system the main cause of premature death.

In addition, the researchers found that women were twice as likely as men to describe their lives as boring. Young workers and less qualified employees were also more likely than others to call their lives boring.

According to Shipley, people experiencing boredom are prone to alcohol abuse and smoking, which reduces life expectancy and is the cause of heart disease. In this regard, the scientist advised representatives of "boring" professions to find an interesting occupation that is not related to work.
