Jean Dosse, French immunologist, pioneer of transplantology and decoding of the human genome, Nobel Prize winner, has passed away at the age of 92.Death occurred from natural causes on June 6 in a hospital on the Spanish island of Majorca.

In 1958, Jean Dosse discovered tissue compatibility antigens (HLA, antigens of human leukocytes), which allowed doctors to check the compatibility of the donor's tissues and the patient receiving the transplant. From that moment, a new stage in the development of transplantology began.

Jean Dosse was born in Toulouse on October 19, 1916. He graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Paris, where he later became a professor. Jean Dosse founded the Association of French Transplantologists France-Transplant and the Center for the Study of Human Polymorphism, where genetic research is conducted.

In 1980, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine (jointly with Americans George Snell and Baruj Benaserraf) for studying genetically determined structures on the surface of cells that control immune responses.
