Life expectancy in the European Union

The highest life expectancy in the EU is in Spain, the lowest is in Bulgaria and Lithuania


The average life expectancy in the European Union between 2002 and 2013 increased by almost three years and amounted to 80.6 years.

These are the data of Eurostat (Mortality and life expectancy statistics http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/index.php/Mortality_and_life_expectancy_statistics).

At the same time, the average life expectancy of women for ten years increased by 2.4 years and in 2013 amounted to 83.3 years. The life expectancy of men increased by 3.3 years and amounted to 77.8 years.

The shortest life expectancy of men was recorded in Lithuania – 68.5 years, the longest - in Italy (80.3 years).

Women live the least in Bulgaria – 78.6 years, the longest – in Spain (86.1 years).
