Life expectancy: stable growth

The life expectancy of Britons is growing by three years every ten years

Irina Chumakova, RIA Novosti

The average life expectancy of Britons has increased by three years every ten years of the last century and now stands at 79 years for men and 83 years for women, the National Bureau of Statistics (ONS) of the UK reported on Tuesday.

If in 1910-12 the average life expectancy of men was 51 years, by 2010-12 it had grown to 79 years, the agency notes. The life expectancy of women during the same period increased from 55 to 83 years.

The reasons for this, according to the ONS, are the improvement of the health system, as well as measures to reduce child mortality.

According to experts, the aging process of the British population creates an additional burden on the social system and the economy as a whole and requires serious discussion.
