Golodets: the average life expectancy of Russians exceeded 71 years

RIA NewsThe average life expectancy of Russians in 2014, according to preliminary data, exceeded 71 years, Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets said at a meeting with doctors-chief specialists of the Ministry of Health.

"We do not have final data yet, but we are almost sure that we have crossed the threshold of 71 years," she said.

According to Golodets, achieving such an indicator is a huge success of Russian medicine, but it is necessary to set more ambitious goals.

She said that in 2015, mortality in the Russian Federation should be reduced by about 60 thousand more people per year. According to her, there are reserves for this, in particular, in the areas of treatment of cardiovascular diseases, digestive diseases, oncological and infectious diseases.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that the chief specialists of the Ministry of Health have already developed specific plans on how to move forward in all these areas.

According to her, the work of the healthcare system needs to be improved through proper organization, improved interaction with the population, advanced training, and responsibility of doctors.
