LifeCode-2017

The hackathon on bioinformatics LifeCode-2017 will be held at NSU

Hackathon is an event where participants gather in teams and work for several days, solve interesting problems. At the end, each team makes a short presentation about the results of their work, experts evaluate projects and choose winners. But in fact, everyone wins – they get valuable experience, new acquaintances and a good mood.

The first hackathons were dedicated to software development, and now they are organized on a variety of topics.

The event in this format will be held at NSU from April 29 to May 1.

Programmers in any languages and platforms, biologists of any specialties, not only bioinformatics, can take part in it. In addition, if you are not a programmer or a biologist, but, for example, a designer or an economist, but are interested in biology, perhaps there is a suitable task for you too. You can come with your team, or you can come alone – at the beginning of the hackathon there will be a distribution by teams.

– Why participate in the hackathon? Students and postgraduates already familiar with bioinformatics will apply their knowledge to solve practical problems. Future bachelors of any specialties will understand whether they are interested in bioinformatics enough to enroll in one of the relevant master's programs. If you are a biologist who is afraid of a computer, or a programmer who does not know the difference between protein and DNA, this will not hurt: projects will be carried out in teams in which participants complement each other with their competencies. Non-students are also welcome, there is no age limit. Participants must register on the website and bring their laptops. Brief descriptions of the tasks have already begun to appear on the website, more details about them will be told at the beginning of the event. The organizers provide tea, coffee and cookies during the hackathon, as well as access to experts advising on biology and bioinformatics. The best projects will be awarded with prizes, – said the head of the laboratory of structural bioinformatics and molecular modeling of NSU Anastasia Bakulina.

The event is held within the framework of the SAE "Synthetic Biology".
