Lung Cancer vaccine
A new achievement of Cuban doctors
One of the best oncologies in the world continues to show positive results
On September 10, Cuban doctors presented a therapeutic vaccine against lung cancer in Colombia – the result of twenty years of scientific research at the Center for Molecular Immunology in Cuba. The drug was demonstrated during the first International Symposium on Active Immunotherapy, organized in the Colombian Medellin. Thus, Colombia, along with Cuba, Peru and Paraguay, will become the fourth country in the world where the vaccine, known as Simavax, will be officially registered.
Cuban immunologist Danay Saavedra noted that the vaccine is intended for patients with "advanced stage of cancer." And the function of the drug is not to prevent or cure this type of cancer, but to prolong the patient's life and provide the necessary quality of life. The vaccine has already been tested on four thousand patients in Cuba and other countries, and the results are very promising: life extension has reached five years.
According to Danai Saavedra, this is "an almost unthinkable result for those who suffer from this disease at an advanced stage, because the survival rate does not exceed a maximum of 18 months," comments Prensa Latina.
